I loved Kaikoura (we headed up there after Christchurch) We had Tono and he gave us a marvellous display, he must have been up for the best part of 15 mins and he gave us the most amazing tail shot (pictures, of course, to follow in Flickr). Our dolphin display wasn't as good as yours though :-(

With regard to the café, they made a fortune on us. Monday (our original booking) the sea was too rough and there was no sailing - snacked in coffee shop whilst waiting to hear if they were sailing. Tuesday, the whales were outside the allowed range - snacked in coffee shop whilst waiting to hear if they came back into range. Wednesday, finally sailed (but on the 7:15am sailing, as we had to fly back to Auckland) so we had breakfast in the coffee shop.......and you say they don't get repeat business - LOL
